Egypt, Qatar Hold Discussions to Push for Gaza Ceasefire
The two leaders reviewed ongoing efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to "resume the ceasefire, stop the bloodshed of the Palestinian people, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the urgent and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip," the statement said.
During the call, Abdelatty also updated the Qatari minister on Egypt’s preparations for a conference dedicated to early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. The event, set to be coordinated with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, is expected to take place once a ceasefire agreement is reached.
The ministers further discussed the truce between Iran and Israel, which followed nearly two weeks of escalated mutual strikes starting in mid-June. Both emphasized the need to strengthen the ceasefire, de-escalate tensions, and push forward with diplomatic efforts.
The ceasefire between Israel and Iran followed surprise U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to "the resumption of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file and all efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the Middle East," the statement concluded.
