Turkey Remains Key Trading Partner, Major Exporter for Libya

(MENAFN) Türkiye continues to be a “strategic trading partner” and one of the most significant exporters to Libya, Mustafa Al-Manea, chair of the Libyan Prime Minister’s Initiatives and Strategic Projects committee, told a news outlet during the Libya Energy and Economic Summit.

Al-Manea said the Libyan government is working to expand trade with Türkiye through various partnerships. “The impact of Türkiye on the Libyan market is of great importance, and we have partnerships in development and infrastructure projects,” he noted.

He added that Turkish companies have renewed existing contracts in Libya and signed new agreements for infrastructure projects, including airports, roads, and other developments.

“Türkiye has been and will continue to be a strategic, economic, and commercial partner for Libya,” Al-Manea emphasized.

The two countries agreed to develop economic partnerships and resolve issues pending for the past two decades during the 22nd Türkiye–Libya Joint Economic Committee (JEC) meeting on Jan. 24, chaired by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Libyan Transport Minister Mohamed Al-Shahoubi.

Al-Manea also highlighted Libya’s public tender for oil and natural gas exploration launched in November 2025 after a 17-year pause, noting that Turkish firms have been the most active applicants so far. “We are waiting on the results of the public tender, which will come out within four weeks,” he said.

He described Libya as no longer a high-risk market, but one offering real investment opportunities across various sectors. Al-Manea added that Libya has always welcomed global firms, and Türkiye has previously signed oil and natural gas agreements with the country.
