Iranian President Calls for Justice
He emphasized the importance of differentiating between legitimate, peaceful demonstrations and attempts to create division.
“We are obligated to listen to peaceful protesters,” the president remarked, adding that “there are those who seek to ride the wave of protests in order to divide the nation,” according to a semi-official news agency.
He stressed that it is essential to ensure that citizens exercise their sovereignty and participate in decision-making processes, while remaining cautious of efforts to transform demonstrations into acts of sedition. “We must give our people their sovereignty and involve them in decision-making, while remaining vigilant against attempts to turn protests into sedition,” Pezeshkian noted.
The president highlighted that past events have revealed that “sworn enemies, including the Israeli regime and its Western supporters, have consistently sought to incite unrest, create division, and fragment Iran.”
He warned that such groups try to exploit social demands by steering protests toward “violence, assassinations, and the destruction of public property,” including assaults on military personnel and public service facilities—actions that “have no place in any norm of civil protest.”
Pezeshkian also emphasized the need for authorities to reevaluate their behavior and effectiveness toward citizens in order to deny those intending to inflame protests any justification. “Sincere service to the people is the primary barrier against enemy infiltration,” he said.
These comments arrive amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, following US President Donald Trump’s claims that a “massive armada” was advancing toward Iran and his call for Tehran to “come to the table” for negotiations.
