Turkey Records Decline in January Housing Sales
In January 2025, the country had registered 117,025 housing transactions.
Istanbul led the housing market with 20,412 sales, followed by the capital Ankara with 10,207, and the Aegean province of Izmir with 6,618 transactions.
New home sales fell 2.1% year-on-year to 34,069 units, while second-hand sales dropped 5.9% to 77,411 units.
Mortgage-backed purchases rose 15.7% from a year earlier, totaling 20,263 homes and making up 18.2% of all sales.
Sales to foreign buyers, however, fell 20.8% to 1,306 units, with Russians, Iranians, and Ukrainians comprising the largest share of overseas purchasers.
