Iran Detains Foreigners Suspected of Links to Intelligence Services
A news agency reported that three additional foreigners were killed during a security operation along Iran’s southeastern border. The nationalities of those detained or killed were not disclosed.
Authorities said the operation uncovered and confiscated a significant cache of weapons from hideouts and targeted safe houses, including RPG-7 launchers, US-made M4 rifles equipped with night-vision devices, several AK-47 rifles with grenade launchers, and handguns.
According to the report, initial interrogations revealed that the arrested individuals allegedly admitted involvement in a recent attack on a police checkpoint in the central city of Kerman, which resulted in the deaths of three officers and one civilian.
The operation comes amid growing tensions between Iran and the United States, ahead of a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations mediated by Oman in Geneva on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the US has significantly reinforced its military presence in the Persian Gulf region, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has conducted a series of drills in preparation for potential conflict.
