John Sununu Can’t Hide From His Pro-Trump Record

Donald Trump’s handpicked U.S. Senate candidate John Sununu tried to rewrite his pro-Trump record on CNN’s Inside Politics, but the reality is Sununu said he would “absolutely” campaign with Trump, has backed Trump’s war with Iran, and believes the U.S Senate race is “important to President Trump’s agenda.”

Trump’s record low approval rating and incredibly unpopular war with Iran are dragging Sununu down while the vast majority of Granite Staters have said they’re paying more for gas and groceries than just a year ago.

Get the facts below:

CLAIM: Sununu claimed he doesn’t need anyone to campaign with him in New Hampshire.

RECORD: Sununu said he would “absolutely” campaign with Trump and has already campaigned alongside RNC Chair Joe Gruters and out-of-state Senators John Kennedy and Tom Cotton.

  • ADAM SEXTON: You're looking to the future a little bit, but you have President Trump's support now. If he comes here to do a big rally, are you going to campaign alongside him?

  • SUNUNU: Look, the President's support is welcome. If he's here, absolutely.

CLAIM: Sununu claims he has said from the very beginning “it was a mistake to go in” to Iran.

RECORD: Sununu has backed Trump’s war of choice with Iran for months, including saying it has “achieved success.”

  • SUNUNU: My focus has been ensuring that we are targeting specific national security objectives, destroying their nuclear capability, and ensuring they don't get a nuclear weapon, destroying their ballistic missile capability. Those objectives have been largely accomplished, and I think the focus now is on getting an agreement and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which is the right thing to do.

  • MATT PRICHARD: Do you consider the war a success at this point? Is that how you would call it?

  • SUNUNU: On those two objectives that I just laid out, which I've said from the beginning have to be the main strategic military objectives, national security objectives, I think they have achieved success there.
